History of the College

The establishment of the ERCC College of Health Technology, Alushi was in 1964 by the Sudan United Missionaries (SUM), which had gone a long way to better the lives of people in the then lower Plateau State, now Nasarawa State has increased the health manpower in the state, being the only health Institution in Existence.

The training of the Students started as medical Auxiliaries, which was producing Rural Health Assistants and later changed to a Community health Based Training Institution.

The school was first affiliated to ABU Medical Auxiliary training School Kaduna and Later with the CHT Zawan Jos Plateau State in 1982.

In 1997, the College received her provisional approval from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) Lagos, with the creation and inauguration of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria, the College is now directly under the supervision of the Board. All her National Examinations are now been conducted by the board (CHPRBN).

The Missionary Principals of the school were; Sister J. Pulford (1964-1968), Sister Jean Dowson (1968-1977) and Sister Susan Hanscome (1977-1979). The first indigenous principal of the school was Mr. Daniel Maiyaki from 1982-1988. Mr. Nuhu Dauda was the second principal of the school from 1989-1995. Followed by Mr. Nuhu Alu (1995-2001), Mr. Daniel Markus (2001-2010), Mr. Samson Tita (2010-2022). Mr. Moses Joo acted in the capacity of the provost from January – June 2023. The current provost, Mr. Isa’ac Dabu Kaduna, assumed office in July 2023.

The first set of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW) trained here was in 1984 and that of Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEW) was in 1989.

The College of Health Technology Alushi, presently runs Community health programme approved by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) i. e the 3 years programme for CHEW, 2 years programme for JCHEW, 3 years programme in Health Information Management (HIM) which is approved by Health Records Registration Board of Nigeria. The College also runs a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) programme for the duration of 3 years.
